A clear theme across all of these tools is that they are still getting better every week. These are not stale legacy products resting on an existing user base. Most have active communities, including Discord groups or subreddits, and their teams are regularly shipping improvements.
ProjectionLab: For FIRE Projections
ProjectionLab is one of my favorite FIRE tools. I turn to ProjectionLab as soon as I am ready to move beyond what my spreadsheets are capable of. It is purpose built by a small dedicated team to simply be the best tool for helping you build your own financial plan. You can see it in action where I leaned on ProjectionLab to help me answer “Can I FIRE in San Francisco?”.
The team keeps making it better too. They recently introduced an “Optimize” feature that can run through hundreds of strategies to help identify opportunities to improve your plan.
Sequence: Automating Your Finances
Sequence is the smart money automation tool that I always wished existed. I am now able to fully automate how money moves across my accounts. I have personally been using Sequence for the past year to make my cash flow more automated.
I originally viewed it as an “If this, then that” rule based system for my money, and it does an excellent job at exactly that. You can even recreate much of my FAANG FIRE cash flow waterfall directly with Sequence. I have not personally used another consumer finance tool that lets me execute money movement rules this directly.
This is just scratching the surface. For the builders out there, Sequence has been investing heavily in their AI agent frameworks. This means that with a Sequence API key you can unlock actual execution into the personal finance tools you are building for yourself.
It is still early days, but I am really excited for this future that Sequence is helping enable.
Mezzi: AI Powered Financial Advice
Mezzi was built with AI at the center, but what stood out to me is that the team has put real effort into building around regulated financial advice rather than just generic AI answers.
The Mezzi team has also built one of my favorite features, “Exposure X-Ray”. It helps you understand your Unknown Concentration Risk. You have unknown concentration when your actual exposure to a single company stock is larger than you realized, primarily due to also having additional exposure through Index Funds.
Mezzi’s X-Ray solves this. It is a powerful tool that helps you fully understand your actual concentration by showing you not only your direct concentrated positions, but also factoring in how much is held within the index funds and target date funds.
What makes this problem even harder is that 401ks are full of proprietary funds and target date funds. I worked directly with the Mezzi team on a beta that allows users to assign proxies for these proprietary holdings (just contact Mezzi for help as they automate the workflow).
