It is now official. A new chapter begins at the Nader household.
My wife’s final day at Uber has officially passed, closing out an incredible 11 year run!
All this FIRE talk is about to get a lot more real.
I think that means I can finally retire the phrase “Semi-FIRE”.
Back in March 2025 I wrote:
“I don’t consider myself retired, my partner still works, and we have an elementary-aged child. I don't think I have ever heard a Stay-at-Home Mom refer to herself as retired. So until she also pulls the trigger, I am going to go with semi-FIRE or House Husband/Stay-at-Home Dad.” - Officially Semi-FIRE’d
We are now entering the FIRE era 🥑🔥.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to be with someone working towards the same goals. Being able to play life in two-player mode is one of the biggest cheat codes there is.
Between my nearly 10 years at Meta and Corin's 11 years at Uber, we've spent more than two decades in Big Tech. While we may not have always had perfect control over the timing of the end, we've been incredibly fortunate to have done the work to give ourselves the financial freedom to decide what comes next.
The formula was always simple:
I've gone into depth on these numbers in the past.
My current numbers have inflated as life in San Francisco has become more expensive.
Still, the formula itself never changed.
What does this mean for FAANG FIRE?
Nothing really!
I designed my FIRE number around never needing to earn another dollar.
That doesn’t mean I won’t earn another dollar.
For those in the know of FIRE acronyms, we can pretend I am Barista FIRE, and FAANG FIRE is my café. I only serve avocado toast and avocado smoothies.
I fully intend to spend the money I earn from here, on top of actively drawing down my FIRE portfolio.
I've spent years writing about the path to FIRE, including a brief three-year stint in this Semi-FIRE chapter. Now I get to spend more time writing about what actually happens once you get there.
Thank you for following along on this journey. Even with all this planning, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't equal parts excited and terrified about what comes next.

Congratulations to both of you! I’m inspired by your journey, eager to learn from your transition and look forward to your posts about life on the other side. Because, I continue to struggle with defining my "enough number" (it's just never enough and keeps growing every few years!!) and want to figure out how to eventually step off the hamster wheel. Best wishes!
Congratulations on reaching this milestone! I can only imagine how awesome you're both feeling 😁
